Prerequisite: Basic Mediation Training
This training requires completion of a BMT prior to enrollment. If you have completed BMT through another Dispute Resolution Center or organization, please let us know which organization provided the training. We will need to review your prior training to determine whether you meet the eligibility requirements for our FMT. Please contact us with any questions or to discuss your eligibility before registering.
About This Training
The 24-hour Family Mediation Training (FMT) teaches mediators how to navigate difficult family conflicts with a focus on divorce issues. Developing the skills to manage these often-volatile family dynamics will expand a mediator’s skill set to mediate all situations with a better understanding of human interactions and challenging relatoinships. These skills extend well beyond family mediation and can be equally valuable in the workplace, where we spend much of our time navigating relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and teams. Through lectures, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and coached role-plays, students will have the opportunity to build their understanding and practice the skills in a co-mediation setting.

What Students Are Saying
See how our training has helped students build confidence and mediation skills.
People are in stages of grief and it is important to recognize and acknowledge they are at different stages. We are working with the parenting plan model of Best Interest of The Child in this era, also appreciate the stages of divorce and looking at it from multiple perspectives. The more people who love you, the more perspectives you have on love – even if parents are not aligned the mediation can focus on the child receiving what they need most as kids.
The instructor and coach's real-world experience throughout the training was invaluable in terms of insight and guidance. Overall, very supportive and positive. The most meaningful portion of the training for me was modeling appropriate language, demonstrating more effective approaches, providing documents with useful phrasing, effectively monitoring and allowing for questions, excellent discussion facilitation, and ongoing availability of instructors.
